What to Wear

Bangladesh August Clothes
 Clothes:
You can wear breathable, sweat-releasing, lightweight summer clothes such as quick-dry clothes, short sleeves, shorts, and loose pants made of cotton, linen, and polyester. Ladies can also wear gauzy midi and maxi dresses, but try not to wear skirts or pants above the knee as most of the Bengalis are Muslims.

Special note on colors: The best choices of colors are white, light blue, green, tan, or gray, because they absorb less heat. Avoid wearing black or other dark colors as they absorb more heat.

 Shoes:
For short-distance city exploration, you can wear sandals if you don’t want your shoes to get wet because of the rain. However, for long-distance hiking, you’d better take a pair of breathable shoes, such as hiking or trekking shoes.

 Accessories:
Sun-protective gear, rain gear, and medicine for heatstroke and colds are necessary. Don’t forget to take insect repellent spray, as the mosquito may be prevalent in August.

August Travel Guide – Where to Go & What to Do

Tourism Rate:

1.  Sitakunda

In August, the rivers and waterfalls of Bangladesh brim with water and rejuvenate after the heavy rains. It is the best time to visit Sitakunda, where waterfalls are dotted and close to each other. You can trek in the Sitakunda Mirsarai range, enjoying the natural beauty of the mountains while exploring the waterfalls.

What makes Sitakunda a popular attraction among tourists is not only the waterfalls, but also the Sitakunda Botanical Garden and Eco-Park, where has a sound ecology and is rich in flora and fauna. Various kinds of nudibranchs grow, and animals such as fishing cats, orangutans, and deer live here.

Apart from those mentioned above, Sitakunda has everything from rivers, lakes, to seas. Guliyakhali Beach, for example, also known as Muradpur Beach, is adjacent to the Keora Forest where you can see the exposed roots of Keora trees and canvas-like meadows. Besides, Mahamaya Lake, Kumira Ghat, and Banshbaria Beach are all worth visiting.

2. Bichanakandi

The natural beauty of Bichanakandi is no less than Sitakunda. Khasi Mountain extends from two sides, converging at Bichanakandi. During the rainy season, dark clouds hang over the top of the Khasi, making the whole mountain even more mysterious. Waterfalls flow down from the peak into a branch of the River Piyain at the foot of the Khasi. The ecology of Bichanakandi is superb; you can explore the wildlife by jeep or on foot to see tigers, elephants, leopards, and a wide variety of birds and visit the wetland parks and surrounding villages by rafting on the Padma River.

In addition to the area's natural beauty, there are also cultural and architectural attractions to explore. You can visit the Bichanakandi Temple, dedicated to one of the main deities of Hinduism, Lord Shiva, to see the ancient architectures and monuments or wander around the local villages to discover the local culture and customs.

3. Tangua Haor

Backed on Meghalaya hills, the view of Tanguar Haor is stunning. Hundreds of canals converge in its fields. In August, due to the rich rains, the Haor becomes as vast as the sea, and this is the time when you will have the opportunity to experience trawling that not available in the hot and cool seasons. If it's a sunny day, the sunset over the Haor can add some romance to your trip. You can also head to the watch tower for a panoramic view of the entire reservoir. If you are a bird lover, then it is advisable to visit during the cool season, from November to February, when more than two hundred species of migratory birds come to roost.

Travel Tip

August 15, 2024, and the same day in 2025 is the annual National Mourning Day in Bangladesh, during which public gatherings of varying sizes will be held in different parts of the country. Therefore, security forces, especially in Dhaka, will be enhanced. Measures include, but are not limited to strengthen supervision at hotels and other similar public places, and road blockades. If you plan to travel to Bangladesh that day, these measures may affect your schedule to some extent.
