Tourism Rate:

1. Pahela Baishakh:Bengali New Year

Bengali New Year is celebrated on April 14th,  2025 throughout the country. On this day, Bengalis dress up in red and white festive dresses, sing, parade, and perform classical Jatra plays. You can also wander in the local bazaar where many traditional Bengali handicrafts like Jamdan weaving, Nakshi Kantha embroidery, and the art of clay pottery are sold. The traditional food of fried hilsa fish, watered rice, and other pastes also characterizes the festival.

2. Sylhet

Bangladesh is a major tea-producing country, and most tea gardens are in Sylhet. In April, it’s time to tea harvest. When in Sylhet at this time, Srinmangal, the tea capital of Bangladesh, is a must-go place. You can visit the tea gardens here in the morning, stroll through the tea bushes, watch the people working, experience tea plucking, see the process of tea production, and drink authentic Bengali black tea.

Lawachara National Park is a must-see tourist attraction in Sylhet. The ecology here is very pleasant. If lucky enough, you can see various birds and endangered animals like capped langur, orange-bellied Himalayan squirrel, and barking deer when walking through the jungles.

For an in-depth tour of Sylhet, you can visit the Khasi Tribe, learn to cook the local cuisine from the residents, and stroll through the local bazaar. In the evening, you can head to the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R), one of Bengal's most significant pilgrimage sites, which houses a mosque and Shah Jalal's (a famous Sufi saint) tomb. Candles are lit around here when night comes, and you can light one for blessings. It is essential to note that you must remove your shoes and dress as conservatively as possible when entering the Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R).

Sylhet's natural landscape is very scenic. April is the best time to visit Bisanakandi as this is when the Bichnakandi quarry stops working. You can enjoy the mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and white clouds here without the disturbance. Moreover, it is also an excellent option to visit Jaflong, surrounded by mountains and streams. Want to see an underwater forest? You can achieve it in Ratargul Swamp Forest. Apart from these, Khadimnagar National Park, the Satchari National Park, and the Jadukata River are all popular tourist attractions in Sylhet.

2. Rajshahi

If you want to immerse in the happy atmosphere of Bengali New Year and taste the most fresh hilsa fish, Rajshahi is the best place to go. Situated along the Padma River, Rajshahi is rich in hilsa fish in April. Here, you can eat fried hilsa fish and try other dishes like Sorshe Ilish, a traditional Bengali dish of hilsa fish in mustard gravy.

Being one of the oldest cities in Bangladesh, Rajshahi has a wealth of artifacts and antiquities, which are collected in one of its most popular attractions - the Varendra Research Museum.
You can also visit the Shaheed Sriti Museum, built by Rajshahi University, to discover the history of the Bangladesh Liberation War. When the sun sets in the evening, watching the sunset by the Padma River can add some romance to your trip. Apart from the attractions mentioned above, Kantanagar Temple Somapuri, Tajhat Palace, and Shait Gumbad Mosque are also well worth visiting.
