May Travel Guide – Where to Go & Tips

Tourism Rate:

1. Vesaka, 2025

Vesak, a Buddhist festival, is celebrated on May 23, 2025. Travelers who follow Buddhism can visit Mohabihar Buddhist Monastery, also known as the Paharpur Buddhist Monastery, one of Bangladesh's most famous Buddhist monasteries, to watch the celebration ceremonies. On this day, monks light the lamps on the hill and recite scriptures.

If you are not interested in Buddhism, you can visit the Paharpur Buddhist Monastery as an archaeological relics. The main temple of the Paharpur Buddhist Monastery is built in a cross-shape, standing at the center of the site. It is surrounded by four long walls carved with terracotta figurines and plaques. There are also vibrant gardens around the temple revealing the Buddhist tradition of respecting nature.

2. Sundarbans National Park

It is best to hide in the shade of the forest on scorching May days, and Sundarbans National Park is a good destination.

It is remote, silent and uninhabited, and the Royal Bengal tiger is the king here. If you are on a tight schedule or an independent traveler, you can head to the Sajnekhali watchtower for bird watching and to Sudhanyakhali to see the tigers and spotted deer.

Due to the wildness of the Sundarbans, exploring this forest alone can be inconvenient and even dangerous, so it is advisable to be accompanied by a guide, which will reduce the inconvenience and enable you to explore more deeply and experience true serenity away from the crowds. For example, you can take a boat trip to the Burir Dabri watchtower, where you can walk on the canopy walkway over the mangroves; or head to Bonnie Camp, the highest watchtower, to capture the whole view of the Sundarbans. Also, you can visit Jhingekhali, the easternmost point there, which is the best place to spot tigers and see various rare birds. As Bengal tigers usually hide in deep forests, they are generally difficult to see. But don't be disappointed, as the rest of the wildlife and rare plants in the Sundarbans are well worth exploring, too.

3. Lawachara National Park

When going to tropical areas, the rainforest is a must-go. In Bangladesh, Lawachara National Park is a great choice. Thanks to the increasing rainfall in May, all the plants start to grow new leaves, which makes the whole forest denser. The sunlight filtered through the leaves adds mystery to the forest. Lawachara National Park is extremely rich in biodiversity, with more than 400 species of birds, mammals, and reptiles like wild chickens, slow loris birds, endangered capped languorous and hoolock gibbons, and pythons and snakes. There are also some tribes located here as well. You can hike along the trails to get there and experience the real life of the local people. It is worth mentioning that this place is also the setting of the famous movie Around the World in 80 Days. Lawachara rain forest is very close to Sreemangal so that you can take a day trip here from Sreemnagal in the morning.
