Is June a good time to visit Tokyo?

It depends on your travel preferences and expectations.

Pros

June can be considered a good time in Tokyo if you would like a budget tour. It is a low travel season, so it’s relatively cheaper. For example, some hotels offer discounts on their onsen service. It also means that there are not many tourists, and you can visit attractions as you wish. Other than must-visit historical destinations, blooming hydrangea and iris create beautiful sights that are worth viewing.

Cons

For visitors who prefer sunny weather during the trip, it’s not a good choice. Continuous rainfall often annoyingly disrupts the travel plan.

What clothes to wear in Tokyo in June?

What to Wear in Tokyo in June

Up

It’s OK to wear T-shirt made from pure cotton, which can absorb sweat in time. Meanwhile, prepare a sun protection jacket to resist the sun on sunny days and cool indoor spaces with air conditioning.

Bottom

Light summer pants are advised; if you like coolness, choose shorts. Besides, long summer dresses are an alternative for women.

Shoes

Lightweight waterproof sneakers are a good choice for rainy conditions. It’s not advised to wear canvas shoes that are easily wetted by rainwater.

Necessities

1. Raingear is needed. In most cases, umbrellas are more comfortable than airtight raincoats and can deal with the weather flexibly. But for Tokyo Disneyland, the situation is the opposite. If there is no remained space in your suitcase, you don’t need to worry. It’s easy to get one at any convenience store.
2. Pack normal sun protection items like sunscreen.
3. Bring mosquito repellent when appreciating blooming flowers, especially in the evening, as mosquitoes are active in humid and hot weather.

For a Tokyo trip in June 2026, it’s advised to prepare spare clothes in case those you wear cannot dry in time in the humid air.

Festivals celebrated in June in Tokyo

1. In early June, Torigoe Shrine holds the Torigoe Festival to eliminate bad luck and disasters for people. You can see two hundred strong men lift a mikoshi weighing nearly four tons and parade near the Shrine on the celebration day. In 2026, it’s expected to be held on June 12 – 15.

2. The abundant rainfall spurs various flowers to bloom. You can enjoy vibrant hydrangea at Hakusan-jinja Shrine and Hakusan Park, where Bunkyo Hydrangea Festival is celebrated. Ueno Park, Showa Memorial Park, and Sumida Park are also hydrangea resorts. Besides, Katsushika Iris Festival is held at Horikiri Shobuen Iris Garden and Mizumoto Park. Just relax yourself in the vast flower sea.
