 Tourism Rate:

1. Admire Autumn Leaves

From mid-to-late November, the must-see scenery in Hiroshima is autumn leaves. With the pleasant climate of Hiroshima, go to the places below in November 2024 to appreciate them:

(1) Momijidani Park, Miyajima Island
Momijidani Park is located at the foot of Mount Miyama in Miyajima Island and is one of the most famous autumn leaves viewing spots in Japan. Mid-to-late November is the best time to see the leaves in the park, when the park’s approximately 700 maple trees turn into autumn colors. Besides, remember to try Maple Leaf-shaped Steamed Bun, a specialty in Miyajima, to enjoy the taste of autumn. When visiting Miyajima, be sure not to miss Itsukushima Shrine and the Otorii gate, Mount Misen surrounded by nature, and other small shrines and temples. With red maple leaves as the background, these attractions are more beautiful.

(2) Sandankyo Gorge
Sandankyo is a 16-kilometer-long (10-mile-long) canyon designated as one of the five most famous gorges in Japan. Visitors can enjoy rafting or stroll along the secluded paths. In November, you can see red maple leaves, and yellow ginkgo leaves contrasting with green pine and cedar trees.

(3) Mitaki Temple
The temple is located near the summit of Mount Mitaki, blending with the mountains, forests, and waterfalls. The road leading to the temple is adorned with hundreds of sculptures. In autumn, about 500 maple trees dye the mountain red.

Tip: The best time for appreciating red leaves is short and a bit different from year to year, so please check the forecast of maple leaves in advance.

2. Visit Atomic Bomb Dome and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

The two should not be missed whenever you visit Hiroshima.

Nestled in the center of Hiroshima, the Peace Memorial Park is a meaningful memorial to the city’s tragic past. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, located in the park, shows the damage caused by the atomic bomb, through exhibitions such as relics and photographs of the victims of the atomic bomb. By telling the tragedy brought by a nuclear war, the immediate and lasting impact on the city and its people is emphasized. The Atomic Bomb Dome is an evidence to the atomic bombing. When the atomic bomb exploded just 160 meters (525 feet) from it, the dome was one of the few buildings that survived. The site symbolizes not only the horrors of nuclear war, but also Hiroshima’s commitment to peace.
