Historical Sites Tour

February with fewer tourists offers an excellent opportunity to have a culture tour at a leisurely pace in Nagoya.

Your trip can start with Atsuta Jingu Shrine. As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, the shrine is known for storing the Kusanagi no Tsurugi sword, which is one of the Three Sacred Imperial Treasures of Japan. But regrettably, this treasure is not on display. Don’t worry. Atsuta Shrine Museum collects about 4,000 more various items donated by pilgrims, 176 of which are designated as national treasures. Osu Kannon Temple, located in the center of Nagoya, is a great place to learn about Japanese history. The main object of worship here is a wooden statue of Kannon. Various sacrificial activities are held every year, attracting numerous pilgrims. If you happen to be here on February 3, 2025, you will encounter the treasure ship parade, called Osu Setsubun Takarabune Gyoretsu in Japan, which is held to remove bad luck. Besides, do not miss the market on the 18th and 28th of every month. There are around 60 stalls selling souvenirs, antiques and beautiful works of art.

If you are afraid of the coldness outdoors in February, the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium can be a good destination to visit. It is the largest indoor aquarium in Japan and is home to many marine creatures such as giant sharks, sea lions, and penguins. There is the largest pool in Japan in the aquarium, where you will be amazed by the wonderful dolphin show. You will also have the opportunity to interact with them in performance.
