Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle, with a pair of golden shachi ornaments shining on the ridge of the Main Keep, is the most popular travel destination in Nagoya. Serving as the symbol of Nagoya, the Main Keep in the castle displays many cultural relics telling the story of the city in the Edo period (1603-1868). You can see the city in full view on its top. Strolling through Nagoya Castle, you will often meet Omotenashi Bushotai, who leads the trend of the martial arts of Japan. You can take photos with the performers for free. On weekends and holidays, they will perform martial arts in the square, from which you can learn about the culture of ancient Japanese samurai.

Osu Kannon Temple & Osu Daido-chonin Festival

Osu Kannon Temple, a Buddhist temple built in 1324, is famous for its huge wooden statue of Kannon. It sees continuous streams of pilgrims all year round. You can pray for good luck here. What shocks tourists is the library below the main hall housing 15,000 ancient books. After visiting, you can also feed the pigeons residing here.

Stepping out of the temple, you will arrive at the Osu Shopping District with a history of over 400 years. This arcade has a total length of over 1,700 meters, featuring more than 1,200 shops lined up in a row. Various activities are held here throughout the year. In mid-October of 2025, the Osu Daido-chonin Festival will be celebrated. During the festival, dancers covered in gold powder perform on the street, and the most beautiful girls selected by citizens are dressed up and parade with their unique walking styles. You can also watch various street shows such as the fire dance and acrobatics for free.

Nagoya Festival

The Nagoya Festival falling in mid to late October is a major event in Nagoya, celebrated to memorize three Japanese generals: Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. At that time, you can see a themed costume parade of about 700 people with large puppets depicting three heroes starting from Nagoya Castle. They are followed by floats decorated with flowers, taking you back to the ancient times. Japanese folk music performances, dance shows and concerts are held around the Hisaya-Odori Park in the evening. Many attractions in Nagoya are open for free during the festival.
