Flourishing Sapporo Summer Festival

Hokkaido is the best destination for travelers to Japan in August, especially for those who dislike hot weather. August is the hottest time of the year in Hokkaido, but the high temperature remains around 24℃ (75.2℉) averagely, making people not feel too hot. At sunny noon, the temperature can be over 30℃ (86℉); however, don’t worry about it. Shaded places can help you to cool off. It should be noted that there is a big temperature difference between day and night. After sunset, it becomes cool, with the temperature dropping below 20℃ (68℉).

August is also the month with the highest precipitation and humidity in a year. It is half sunny and half rainy. At the end of the month, rainfalls occur more often but usually do not last long, which will not affect your trip greatly. Besides, Hokkaido is not as prone to typhoons as other regions in Japan, which rarely land here in summer.

The sun rises early this month, so you can start your day trip as early as possible to avoid crowded tourists in popular attractions and get a better experience.
