Temperature: In June, the temperature in Hokkaido varies by region. In central areas such as Sapporo, the temperature rises above 20℃ (68℉) in the daytime, which is warm and pleasant; in the eastern region including Kushiro, Abashiri and other cities, it can be cold with the average temperature remaining around 13℃ (55.4℉). However, the common feature is the large temperature difference between day and night. 
Precipitation: Different from other regions in Japan, Hokkaido does not have a rainy season in summer. In June, it does not rain much, with a total precipitation of 90mm (3.5in). You are likely to meet showers during your trip. Don’t worry, because they will not last long.

Considering the warm climate in June, lightweight and comfortable clothes including shirts, thin hoodies, and jeans are advised. At sunny noon, you can even wear T-shirt. For woman, long-sleeve dress is a good choice for taking photos in beautiful flower fields. When going outside in the morning and evening with relatively low temperatures, you need to add knitwear, trenchcoat or windbreaker to keep warm.

Hokkaido in June is filled with blooming flowers, which are superb natural landscapes not to miss. In Shikisai-no-Oka Garden in Biei, you can view tulips, lupine and other seasonal flowers by tractor-drawn bus or hot-air balloon. You can also buy some farm products from the stalls along the roads. Furano and Biei are famous for their beautiful lavender fields. Lavenders begin to bloom this month with a few tourists, offering you a great opportunity to leisurely stroll in the vast field. Miyama Pass is another lavender resort, where you can admire the beautiful scenery on the Ferris wheel.



TOYAKO Manga Anime Festa

If you are a cosplay enthusiast, do not miss the TOYAKO Manga Anime Festa held in Lake Toya area in late June 2025. During the event, cosplayers dressed as various characters from anime, manga and games wander on the streets. Finding the characters you like and taking photos with them is a good idea. If you want, you can also dress up and join them. Talk shows, comic book exhibitions and other fascinating events are held. There are also various snack stalls, where you can taste authentic Hokkaido food.

Yosakoi Soran Festival

In the second week of June every year, a 5-day Yosakoi Soran Festival is held in Sapporo. It is a celebration that everyone can participate in from all parts of the city. Odori Park serves as the main venue, where you can see all dancers from different teams dress in colorful traditional costumes and dance to folk music. Their costumes, music, and dance are freely designed, so you can see a lot of distinctive performances. Watching on the street for free is a good choice, or you can book special seats for a better viewing experience.
