The foothills of Mount Fuji in September are generally quite mild, with the temperature being pleasant during the day and very cool at night. The climate of the higher elevations is very cool around noon but cold most time; strong winds may occur from time to time, and dense fog could also permeate the mountain, making the visibility very low.

The temperature of the Mount Fuji foothills in September is generally very pleasant, with the average high temperature of 24 degrees Celsius (75.2 degrees Fahrenheit) and average low of 15℃ (59℉). There are several days when the maximum temperatures exceed 26℃ (78.8℉), which usually occurs in the early and middle periods. In sunny weather occasionally, the highest temperature may reach around 30℃ (86℉). In the early morning and evening, it’s comfortably cool, with the minimum temperatures rarely exceeding 20℃ (68℉) or falling under 13℃ (55.4℉).

The average high temperature at Mount Fuji’s Fifth Station is around 14℃ (57.2℉), and the average low temperature is around 5℃ (41℉), which is quite chilly. The summit is much colder, with an average temperature of 1-7℃ (33.8-44.6℉), so it is usually closed to the public around September 10th.

Is Mount Fuji Worth It in September?

What to Pack for Mount Fuji Trip in September?

 Clothing
Summer clothes like dress, or short-sleeved shirt together with shorts are suitable most time at the mountain foot. But on sunny days, it is best to wear sun-proof clothing, or a thin long-sleeved shirt and long pants because the UV rays are very strong, far exceeding the average index of 4.

For visitors who want to climb the mountain, climbing suit like 3-in-1 jacket plus climbing trousers are necessary. Besides, you are recommended to wear quick-drying inner layers for physical comfort.

 Footwear
Summer shoes such as casual sneakers and canvas shoes are comfortable for walking. Remember to pack some water-proof shoe covers in case you encounter rainy weather. Professional climbing shoes are needed for hikers.

Umbrella and raincoat are indispensable, and the latter is more convenient for climbers. Sun protections items such as the parasol, sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are equally important particularly on the mountain where the UV rays are severely strong on clear days.

Or you can visit the Nakisawa Ice Caves by taking the route bus from the Lake Kawaguchi Station for about 30 minutes.
