Kansai International Airport

Airport Code: KIX
Location: about 35 km (21.7 miles) southwest of downtown Osaka, on Kansai International Airport Island in Osaka Bay in the southwest of Osaka Prefecture, Japan.

Kansai International Airport is renowned as the world's first fully artificial island airport and Japan's first airport operating around the clock. It boasts an impressive network of routes to 92 cities in 24 countries, served by 72 airlines from both Japan and abroad.

The airport complex comprises four main areas: Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Kansai Airport Station, and AEROPLAZA, a nearby building offering rest and entertainment services to travelers.

Terminals & Shuttle Bus

Kansai International Airport features two terminals: Terminal 1 (T1), serving traditional and select low-cost airlines, and Terminal 2 (T2), exclusively for low-cost carriers (LCCs). Connecting these terminals seamlessly is a complimentary 24-hour shuttle bus service, offering a quick 7-9 minute journey.

T1

The world's longest airport terminal, stretching 1,672m (1828 yards), features four floors above ground and one below.

 1F: Domestic arrivals and international immigration.
 2F: Domestic departures, dining, and shopping.
 3F: Special lounges and prayer spaces.
 4F: International departures and security checks.

T2

A single-story facility dedicated to LCCs, divided into Domestic and International Flights Areas, served by Peach Aviation, Spring Airlines, and Jeju Air.

Free Shuttle Bus Service between Terminals
With one pick-up point from T1 to T2 and two pick-up points from T2 to T1, passengers can easily access the buses by following the signage after disembarking.

Operating on a frequent schedule from approximately 5:00 a.m. to 0:00 a.m., buses depart every 2 to 8 minutes. During late-night and early-morning hours, the frequency adjusts to approximately one bus per hour

There are two main routes:
 T1 & Kansai Airport Station to T2
 T2 to T1 & Kansai Airport Station

How to Travel from Kansai International Airport

1. Electric Trains

JR-West offers Haruka Express (every 30 min) that reaches Shin-Osaka Station in 50 min and Kyoto Station in 1 h 15 min, as well as Kansai Airport Rapid (every 15 min) that arrives at Osaka Station in 65 min, Tennoji Station in 30 min, and Nara Station in 1 h 30 min. 

Alternatively, Nankai provides Rapi:t that travels to Namba Station in 35 min, while Airport Express in 43 min.

2. Airport Limousine Bus

The KIX Airport Limousine Bus, with bus coming every 10 to 15 minutes, provides direct access to Osaka's prime business hubs and attractions such as Umeda, Namba, Shinsaibashi, and Universal Studios Japan, with journey times ranging from 50 to 70 minutes. 

It also connects to major Kansai cities including Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, and Himeji, offering travel durations of 65 to 90 minutes. Plus, KIX bus offers overnight services, catering to nighttime arrivals.

3. Taxi 

At Kansai International Airport, passengers can enjoy taxi services including metered taxis, shared large taxis, and fixed-rate taxis that require reservations, covering destinations from popular attractions in Osaka to nearby cities such as Nara, Kyoto, and Wakayama.

T1: Arrival floor for international and domestic flights (1F).
T2: Entrance to the international flight boarding area (1F).
