Summers of Cyprus are hot and dry, lasting from mid-May to mid-October, while winters are warm and wet, lasting from December to February. Autumn and spring are short but mild and pleasant. Rains fall chiefly from November to March, reaching 294 mm and occupying about 81% of the annual rainfall. Cyprus is blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, with six hours of sunshine a day even during the rainy winter months of December and January. In conclusion, Cyprus has a typical Mediterranean climate, and its climate is better and more pleasant than most other countries. It is one of the places with the most pleasant weather and climate on the earth.

What’s more, since it’s the shoulder season, the price of hotels, air tickets and more is low and you can visit Cyprus without crowded people around. Clear skies, warm sunshine, less-crowded sandy beaches and various attractions all make these months the best time to visit Cyprus.

Spring in Cyprus is relatively short. During spring, the daytime is pleasantly warm, while the temperature may drop slightly at night, so an additional coat or a thicker coat should be better put on if you want to go out in the evening. In Cyprus, spring is perfect for country walking, and it is the time preferred by those who like to go to the countryside to enjoy the greenery and flowers of nature. Besides, the Limassol Carnival is celebrated in spring, which is the oldest and most popular folk festival in Limassol and in the whole of Cyprus. The holding time of the Limassol Carnival is about February or March, which is determined by the time of Easter. In 2024, the Carnival was held on March 17. In 2025, it will be held on March 2. On that day, thousands of people dressed in colorful clothes, ornaments and hats parade through the streets in a variety of themed groups.

The highest temperature in this season can reach 32-35℃ (89.6-95℉), and the sea temperature is generally around 27℃ (80.6℉), which makes it even more pleasant to stay on the beach or swim in the sea. Besides, it’s also the best time to do various water sports and sun tanning. Therefore, if you like sea and water sports and want to enjoy sunlight, May to October is the right time. However, it should be noticed that the UV rays are strong, so sun protection measures need to be adopted. 

July and August are the peak tourist months in the coastal areas and various activities will be held for tourists, especially in Ayia Napa, Limassol and Paphos. But the prices of hotels, restaurants, and air tickets and the number of visitors will peak. If you prefer quieter and less-crowded visiting, you can go to the inland towns or mountain areas. With high elevation, these places have lower temperature than the coastal areas.

The climate of Cyprus in autumn is similar to that in spring, while the scenes are totally different. In Cyprus, even the middle of October feels like summer, but by the end of the month, the coolness slowly hits. From October to November, the leaves begin to take on autumn colors, and the vineyards take on golden and deep red colors in the dazzling sun. When you visit Cyprus in autumn, you can choose forests and villages to enjoy the unique scenery and tranquility of autumn. The Troodos Mountains are a good choice. You can hike and leisurely admire the nearby villages, rivers, and trees. If you are tired of hiking, there are many campsites and barbecue parks in the mountains. The cold days in Cyprus usually begin in December. The climate of Cyprus in winter is changeable: sometimes sunny days, sometimes rainy days, and most of the year’s precipitation in Cyprus occurs in winter. Therefore, it’s not a good season traveling there. However, being in the slack season, the number of tourists and the price of hotels are both lower and it’s right the time to enjoy skiing on Troodos Mountains.
