1. The April Fair in Seville

To celebrate the arrival of spring, a week-long festival, April Fair, is held throughout Andalusia. The celebrations in Seville are the grandest. It happened from April 14th to 20th, 2024, and will take place from May 5th to 10th, 2025. The celebration usually begins when thousands of colored lights are illuminated in the city. People in traditional costumes sing and dance together in the street, showing you the charm and passion of Seville. Here you will see the most sincere flamenco performance and the most extraordinary Equestrian performance. Bullfighting is still a part of the festival, but reservation for tickets in advance is necessary. The elaborately decorated Casetas are the perfect place to try local food and taste sherry. A massive fireworks display marks the end of the festival.

2. The Cherry Blossom Festival in Jerte Valley

Don’t miss the Jerte Valley, 3 hours’ drive from Madrid, if coming to Spain in April. It is a stunning place for blossom viewing and springtime photos. In April, more than 1,500,000 cherry trees are in full bloom, which creates a picturesque valley. Eleven villages there host celebrations, and there are numerous markets and exhibitions for you to check out. You can also enjoy fresh air by strolling beside the trickling streams in the valley. Many craft skills like winemaking and olive oil making are well preserved here, so the wine cellar and olive oil press garden here are also worthwhile visiting.

3. The Sant Jordi Festival in Barcelona

The Sant Jordi Festival is held on April 23th every year to memorize the patron saint of Catalonia. It is also called Valentine’s Day of Catalonia. Combining romance and culture, all people are given books or roses as gifts on this day. The rose represents love and friendship, while the book commemorates Cervantes and Shakespeare. People wander through the book and rose stalls lining streets at that time, hoping to find their best gifts. The Rambla Street, Barcelona’s most famous street, is where the majority of these stalls are located. You can also enjoy Sardanas, a traditional dance in Catalonia, at Sant Jaume Square and taste festive dessert Tarta de Sant Jordi. In addition, the windows of Casa Batlló, designed by architect Gaudi, are also filled with roses. You can get a unique version of this building during the festival days.
