What to Do When Visiting Morondava in February, 2026

Travel Recommendation Rate:

February is actually not a very good month to plan a visit here, since the roads to the iconic Tsingy De Bemaraha National Park are temporarily shut down. There are some good alternatives for you:

1. Take Pictures on Avenue of the Baobabs

Avenue of the Baobabs is the most iconic spot in Morondava and you should not miss it whenever you come. If you come in February, there will be less dust on the road thanks to the frequent rain. It is because of the longevity and grandness of baobabs that Malagasies consider them divine plants. Baobab Avenue is also a wonderful spot for photos. And the sunset time is the most beautiful. After that, have a baobabs drink and take some souvenirs from the small stalls on the avenue.

2. Taste Local Snacks in Food Markets

Because of the rainy weather in February, road conditions can be terrible. So a tour to downtown food markets will save you much time and energy. You can find not only all kinds of local food made of fresh seafood, such as lobster porridge, salt and pepper mantis shrimp and steamed crab, but also the unique baobabs drink. And they are all at a rather cheap price.

3. Enjoy Coconuts and Friendliness in Betania Village

Humid climate in February may not be good for visiting nature reserves, but a tour to Betania Village is effortless and enjoyable. It is a primitive village with no modern facilities like electricity or tap water. The villagers live on fishing, so the seafood here is very fresh. Usually the seafood market on the beach opens at 10 a.m. From crabs to lobsters, you can find all kinds of seafood here. The hospitable villagers may even pick coconuts from the trees and share them with you. Visitors will be immersed in the slow-paced and peaceful life here.
