The best time to visit Kirindy, or more specifically the Kirindy Forest in Madagascar, is its dry season from April to November. In this period, it scarcely rains and each month has no more than 3 rainy days on average. With little rain, the Kirindy Forest has better road conditions, while in wet weather, the unsurfaced dirt roads would be muddy and slippery. In view of more sunny days in these months, tourists need to prevent sunburn with a sun hat or sunglasses.

Kirindy weather in the dry season is not extremely hot or cold, varying between 15 and 31°C (59 and 70°F). The highest average temperatures of these months range from 26 to 31°C (79 to 88°F), making people feel warm and sometimes a bit hot around noon. If you plan to visit Kirindy Forest between April and November, 2025, please avoid noon time and enjoy your hike in warm morning and afternoon periods. In the coolest June and July, the lowest average temperature at night is around 15°C, not very cold, suitable for a hike in the forest to view rich nocturnal animals including grey mouse lemurs and red-tailed sportive lemurs.

September to November is the best time to view Madagascar’s endemic fossas. 

This cat-like animal with a long tail is also the largest carnivorous mammal in the country and is good at catching small mammal such as lemurs. Kirindy Forest is the best place to view fossas all over Madagascar. September to November are their mating season and they attract each other with their special calls. After a female fossa occupies a tree, you may find several male ones around.

1. These months are slightly hotter than the other months in Kirindy’s dry season and also receive low rainfall in 0 to 3 rainy days on average. So tourists are advised to drink more water and prevent sunstroke.
2. Please keep a proper distance to fossas in the forest in case any accident. Besides, avoid any loud voices once you find them, or they may run away swiftly to protect themselves.
3. During your night tour in these months, it’s also likely to see fossas because some find their food at night.

On the plus side, more tourists avoid visiting Kirindy in these months due to abundant rain, making this period the slack season here. Air tickets and hotel rooms are at lower prices.
