 Yangtze River Bridge

Note: The Nanjing Yangtze River was temporarily shut down for a three-year renovation and is expected to be reopened in 2019.

It is a double-deck and double-service bridge built completely without external assistance. A highway bridge on the upper floor is 4,589 meters (about 3 miles) long, 15 meters (about 16 yards) wide. Four large cars can run shoulder to shoulder on this highway. In addition there is a more than 2-meter-wide (about 2 yards)  footway on both sides of the highway. A railway bridge on the lower floor is 6,772 meters (about 4 miles) long, 14 meters (about 15 yards) wide. This railway is double-tracked, which means that two trains can run in opposite directions at the same time.

Yangtze River Bridge was finished in 1968. It is like a dragon flying across the mighty Yangtze River.

There are 200 cast iron embossments on the balusters on each side of the main span of the highway bridge. About 150 pairs of elegant white magnolia-flower-shape street lamps stand side by side. At nightfall these street lamps shine brightly. The mighty bridge becomes the earthly Milky Way.

 Mount Qixia

Located in the northeast of Nanjing City, Mount Qixia, originally called Mount She, is named after the Qixia Temple in the mountain. There are three peaks of Mount Qixia. Dragon Peak is in the east and Tiger Peak in the west. The main peak is called Phoenix-flying Peak. The three names come from their shapes. Mount Qixia is covered by thick forest and decorated by beautiful valleys and rocks. The trees are mainly roburs and maples. Every autumn you can be deeply moved by the bright red color that covers the mountain.

The eponymous building of Mount Qixia, Qixia Temple, has contributed greatly to the reputation of the mountain. At the top of the temple is a holy shrine with an exquisite statue of a Buddha carved from a large slab of white marble. In addition there is a figure of Monk Jianzhen to commemorate his great deeds in sailing to Japan and his bravery in overcoming so many difficulties. In the southeast of the Qixia Temple there is a dagoba built in the Sui Dynasty (581 - 618), which is now considered to be a masterpiece of Buddhist artwork in China.

Mount Qixia, with its beautiful scenery and strong religious atmosphere, attracts thousands of visitors from home and abroad.

The vegetarian noodles in Qixia Temple are suggested, as well as the fragrant mushrooms and other vegetable dishes.

When to go
It is best to visit the Mount Qixia in late autumn. During that time, you can see the crimson maple leaves and the scenery is very beautiful.
