Trivandrum Weather

Located in the southernmost part of India, the capital of Kerala state, Trivandrum currently known as Thiruvanthapuram, is one of the most popular cities in the country.
It is built on the seven hills along the borders of tropical savanna climate.  Trivandrum climate stays partially wet and hot throughout the year.

Trivandrum weather varies very little throughout the year. It wouldn’t be right to say that this city has extreme hot season neither cold. Trivandrum temperature varies between 23°C and 32°C (74°F to 91°F) throughout the year. With an average rainfall up to 330.4 during monsoon, the average temperature ranges between 22°C and 30°C (71.6°F to 86°F). Being just 36 meters above sea level, usually this city has a tropical climate.

Winter (December to next February)

Trivandrum weather is very harmonious during winter, starting from December and lasts till February with a pleasing temperature that ranges between 18oC and 28oC (64oF to 82oF). During this season, most of the tourists travel to this city to visit Kuthiramalika (Puthenmalika) Palace Museum (4.5/5 star), Padmanabhapuram Palace (4.4/5 star), and Napier Museum (4.4/5 star).

Trivandrum climate are delightful during winter, and the atmosphere does not drop below 18 oC (64 oF). Cotton shorts, shirts, chinos for men, and for women, bermuda shorts, tank top, long sleeve skirts, sweatshirt or light jacket are the best clothes to wear in Trivandrum. Sunglasses and hats are an ideal combination.

Tip: Some temples do not permit the entry of non-Hindu people.


Summer (March to May)

Summer starts from March and continues to spread its heat till the end of May. During summer, weather in Trivandrum goes up to 36oC (96oF) in day and drops by 25oC (77oF) at night which makes it pretty pleasant. Some of the highly recommended places to visit during summer are Priyadarshini Space Planetarium (4.3/5 star), Hawa beach (4.4/5 star), and Shanghumukham Beach (4.3/5 star).

For men trendy cotton breathable printed shirts and shorts or tracks with t-shirts, chinos along loafers, sunglasses, hats etc. whereas women have plenty of options from tank tops, stripped tiered skirts, swing sweatshirts, kurtis, churidar (for temple visit) along with sneakers, sandals and sunglasses, which all are  best and comfortable to carry.

Tip: Carry sufficient bottles of water to keep yourself hydrated and sunscreen.


Monsoon Season (June to November)
Monsoon hits Trivandrum at the start of June and remains pretty long till November, hence making the best time for tourists to travel Trivandrum. This city becomes wet and turns green during monsoon. Trivandrum weather during monsoon remains calm 30 oC (86oF) in a day and 22oC (71.2oF ) at gratifying night. During monsoon, Trivandrum receives on an average of 687.2mm rainfall.

Some of the famous places during monsoon to visit are Agasthyakoodam (4.5/5 star), Ponmudi (4.5/5 star), Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary (4.2/5 star). Raincoats, sneakers, shorts, tracksuits are some of the best outfits for men, whereas women can try shorts, knee-length skirts, capris along with sneakers, sunglasses and umbrellas during their travel to avoid getting drench in rain.
