Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok, Airport Pick-up
Welcome to Thailand! Upon arrival, our guide will greet you in the arrival hall of your landing airport. You will then be escorted to the hotel in downtown Bangkok in a comfortable, air-conditioned car. With no traffic delays, we’ll get there in 30-40 minutes. On the way, our guide will provide a brief introduction to Thailand, offering you a glimpse into this vibrant country. ► Insider Tips:1. Clothing: Please avoid wearing tight, see-through, or overly revealing clothes when visiting temples in Thailand. Take off your shoes before entering the main hall of a temple and ensure that your clothing covers your knees, shoulders, and stomach; 2. Currency: The Thai Baht (THB) is the official currency of Thailand (USD 1≈THB 30). Cash is the primary form of payment, although some major shopping malls and restaurants accept VISA and Master Cards. When entering Thailand, all foreign travelers are required to carry at least 20,000 baht in cash or the equivalent in foreign currencies. It’s advisable to bring US dollars or euros and exchange them in downtown Bangkok, with a more competitive rate; 3. Ride-hailing: Using the Grab app to hail a taxi will make your free exploration more convenient. It offers various options, including taxis, private cars, and motorcycles, helping you save time in congested Bangkok. Both VISA and cash payments are accepted. While hailing a street taxi may be cheaper than Grab, ask the driver to use the meter and have some Thai bahts in small bills ready. Another popular taxi-hailing app is Bolt, which has lower prices but longer waiting time. ► Free Time Suggestion: If you still feel energetic after arrival, go and explore Bangkok by yourself! Consider taking a 15-minute taxi ride from your hotel to visit the Erawan Shrine with the well-known Four-faced Buddha. Appreciate its compassionate expression or watch a traditional Thai dance performance while you’re there. Do you prefer a lively night market? A 30-minute taxi ride will take you to the Khao San Road Night Market, where you can try local specialties like Banana Roti (flatbreads) and Fried Spring Rolls, with prices typically ranging from THB 30-60 (USD 1-2). Keep your backpack in front of you and stay alert while visiting these bustling areas. Accommodation: Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok (4 stars)

Day 2: Bangkok: Wat Pho, Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, and Chao Phraya River Cruise
After breakfast, our guide and the driver will pick you up and drive to today’s first destination, Wat Traimit Withayaram Worawihan. This temple houses a huge golden Buddha statue, said to be crafted from 5.5 tons of pure gold. Explore the exhibition hall to uncover the statue’s legendary past, which closely mirrors Thai history. Next, we will visit Wat Pho, the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok. The striking Buddha statue in a reclining posture represents nirvana in Buddhism. Follow our guide to observe it from various angles. Additionally, Wat Pho is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage, and you’ll find a massage school within the temple. ► Three Highlights to Explore at Wat Pho:1. 108 Patterns on the Reclining Buddha’s Feet: those intricate designs recreate significant figures and auspicious symbolism in Buddhism, and you can feel the wisdom and power of the religion; 2. Spectacular Pagoda Complex: 99 pagodas and their porcelain decorations create a visual spectacle, making Wat Pho the temple with the largest number of pagodas in Thailand; 3. Evidence of Thailand’s First University: a wealth of information about Buddhist history, medicine, and literature is crafted on the temple walls, and you’ll unveil why Wat Pho is considered Thailand’s first university. Then follow our guide to walk 5 minutes north to one of Bangkok’s most iconic landmarks, the Grand Palace, an ancient palace and temple complex built for members of the Thai royal family, but the main buildings of the palace are not open to the public. We’ll focus on exploring temples here, especially Wat Phra Kaew. It is north of the Grand Palace, and houses a stunning precious emerald Buddha statue carved out of a single piece of jade. ★ Special Arrangement: Chao Phraya River Cruise by Long-tail BoatIn the afternoon, you will be guided to hop on a long-tail boat to experience a 1-hour Chao Phraya River cruise. Iconic landscapes such as the Grand Palace and the impressive Buddha statue at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen will unfold in front of your eyes. And the boatman will make timely stops for you to snap pictures. The boat will pass through the residential areas along the river, where the distinctive water houses reveal the real local life. Tips: 1. It is highly recommended to sit at the bow for a panoramic view and great photos; 2. The boatmen may offer you a blessing garland for a charge of THB 20. Feel free to decline if you are not interested in it. Today’s Bangkok downtown trip will be completed at the magnificent riverside Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), which is famous for its characteristic 79-meter (259-foot) high Angkorian-style pagoda. Climb to the middle level for spectacular views along the Chao Phraya River, but remember to tread carefully on the steep steps. Finally, our guide and the driver will escort you back to the hotel. ► Recommended Restaurant: Somboon Seafood Central Embassy To truly experience the essence of Thai food, you can take a 15-minute taxi ride from your hotel to the Somboon Seafood Central Embassy. The golden designs of pillars and dividers in this 54-year-old restaurant exude a sense of luxury. A must-try dish is the Fried Curry Crab, which is once recognized as one of the 50 reasons to visit Bangkok by CNN. Tom Yum Goong and Stir-fried Water Mimosa are also widely acclaimed. In the morning, we’ll head north from Bangkok to Ayutthaya in an hour, the ancient capital of Siam and a cherished UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way, we will stop at Bang Pa-in Palace, the former summer retreat of the Siamese royalty. Our guide will take you through this massive palace complex, which combines Thai, Chinese and Gothic architectural styles. As a royal site, it has a strict dress code. Be sure to wear trousers or a long dress. As a typical Gothic-style temple in the palace, Wat Niwet Thammaprawat sits beautifully on an island in the center of the river. Buddha statues and church-like altars harmoniously coexist inside, revealing a unique blend of art and religion. At noon, we will have a Thai lunch at a local specialty restaurant. In the afternoon, continue our tour of Ayutthaya by heading north along the Chao Phraya River. ► Wat Mahathat: Marvel at the Eternal Smile of Ancient AyutthayaAfter a half-hour drive, we will arrive at Wat Mahathat, where the iconic symbol of Ayutthaya awaits. A head of Buddha appears here in an incredible way because it is wrapped in the root of a Bodhi tree! According to the legend, this head rolled to the tree’s base after being severed during a war. Over centuries, nature has embraced and protected the head, creating such a breathtaking sight that is considered a lucky Buddhist symbol. Time permitting, we’ll explore more temples and monuments, such as the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon. Tip: Please sit down and keep your head lower than the Buddha statue to show respect when taking photos. In the late afternoon, we will leave Ayutthaya. Our guide and the driver will take you to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok for your 1.5-hour flight to Chiang Rai. As we cross the bridge, take a moment to reflect on your desires and thoughts. Don’t miss the sculptures of struggling hands on both sides, reminding you of the horrible results of giving in to desire. Our final destination is “heaven”, along the path to a happy life, where spiritual purification and ascension await you as you walk through the material world to the ethereal one. The main stupa features seven spires, symbolizing the seven weeks that Buddha spent meditating after his Enlightenment. Finally, we will arrive at a selected hotel in Chiang Mai, where you will spend two nights. Following that, the guide will lead you to a solemn shrine, Wat Phra Singh, one of the oldest and largest temples in Chiang Mai. Apart from being amazed at its specular Buddhist architecture, you’ll experience a richer cultural immersion if you happen to visit in mid-April. Locals get together here to celebrate the Songkran Festival (Water Festival) held from April 13 to 15. They exchange warm wishes for the next year by splashing water on each other. You may join it and witness captivating cultural scenes like spectacular parades of floats and traditional costume performances. Today’s tour will end at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
