Under the sun, the climate becomes pretty hot, but it’s still relatively cool in the shade of leafy trees and by the sea with cool winds.

What to Wear in Wakayama in June

Clothing: Due to high humidity and temperature, it’s smart to pack quick-drying and breathable clothes, such as loose short-sleeved T-shirts and thin pants in cotton or linen fabric. Plus, it’s advisable to bring along light long-sleeved garments against strong UV rays. If girls would like to match the distinctive summer beach flavor, bright dresses are highly recommended.

Footwear: Different travel destinations need different shoes. For example, comfy mesh sneakers are more suitable for sightseeing in cities. By the sea with sandy beach, lightweight beach shoes or flip-flops are easy to wear or remove. Hikers had better wear waterproof and non-slip walking shoes; otherwise, it’s better not to hike in mountainous areas in the rain.

 Accessories:
1. Sun-protective items including sun hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential in June.
2. Raingear is a necessity in the rainy season, as well as plastic shoe covers and water repellent spray are also important.
3. Anti-snake spray is advised for hikers, since snakes tend to be more active during rainy periods.

Bonus Tips and Advice for Wakayama Trip in June

1. In case of rain, replace outdoor scenic spots with indoor ones, such as Kuroshio Market in Wakayama Marina City, Tenkuu Cafe at Kimiidera Temple and Adventure World in Shirahama.
2. If you get caught in rain while visiting some seaside attractions, avoid taking photos on the rocks near the ocean. For instance, some rocks at Senjojiki Rock Terrace, frequently lashed by waves, are covered in seaweed. Along with rain water, ones get even more slippery, making you more prone to fall down.
3. Try to book a hotel with drying facilities, since clothes are very hard to dry in this month. If you cannot find one like this, hairdryer is also a good alternative.
