Shizuoka Weather in April

Season: Spring
In short: warm day, cool early mornings and nights; not very much rainfall; cherry flowers in early April

Balmy Weather

Average Temperature: 11-20℃ (52-68℉)

Thanks to its balmy weather, April in Shizuoka is one of the best periods for travel, and at the start of the month is the last chance to admire cherry blossoms. During the daytime, temperatures often range from 15-20℃ (59-68℉) in early April, while other days are mostly above 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit). Particularly at the end of the month, highs reach 25℃ (77℉) or more in a few days. In contrast, although temperatures in early mornings and nights rise from 8℃ (46℉) to 15℃ (59℉), they get a tad cooler, with some days witnessing a gap of over 10℃ (50℉) compared to day temperatures.

High temperature may decline by 5℃ (41℉) or so on some cloudy and rainy days. And if the wind blows, it becomes colder. Even wearing a light down coat cannot be overstated.

Not Very Much Rainfall

Average Humidity: approximately 70%

April in Shizuoka doesn’t get very much precipitation, with an average of 233 mm (9.2 in) accumulating from 15 rainy days. Overall, light and moderate rain account for the most, but there may be 1-3 days of heavy rain over the month. The probability of rain lasting half a day is comparatively high. At times, it rains twice in a single day: one tends to be a short-lived shower, while the other has longer duration. According to data in the past two years, Shizuoka saw three successive days of rain in the first ten days of April. Therefore, if you plan to come here in this time of 2026, bring along an umbrella or a raincoat.

Daylength & Sunshine Hours

Sunrise Time: 04:59 - 05:36
Sunset Time: 18:09 - 18:33
Average Sunshine Hours: about 6 hours/day

In April, you can enjoy extended daylength from 12 hours 33 minutes to 13 hours 35 minutes, which gives you plenty of time for full exploration. If you intend to visit Fujisan Hongu Sengen-taisha Shrine, note that its open hours change from 5:30 - 19:30 in March to 5:00 - 20:00 between April and September.

The duration of sunshine is relatively abundant, and UV rays get stronger at the end of the month with the UV index climbing to 8. So, it’s better to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen and wear sunglasses during your outdoor visit on sunny days.

What to Wear in Shizuoka in April

Upper Clothing: Long sleeve shirts plus leather jackets are enough in April. If your itinerary includes Miho no Matsubara and Mount Omuro, you’re advised to bring a hat with string and a scarf or cotton vest, since strong winds in these places cause the lower apparent temperature.

Bottom Clothing: Jeans and sweatpants are both acceptable for Shizuoka’s climate in April. If females would like to wear long dresses, pair with thin stockings.

Footwear: Considering large areas of tourist attractions in Shizuoka, well-fitting sneakers are the best. Plus, they’re preferably made of leather, for ones are not only water-resistant but also easy to wipe mud off on rainy days.
