Maizuru Park

Maizuru Park is centered on the Fukuoka Castle Ruins, surrounded by Fukuoka Castle Exploration Museum and Kourokan-ato Tenjikan, an ancient reception hall for diplomacy, as well as natural landscapes such as gardens and green spaces. Inside, flowers bloom throughout the year, such as plum blossoms, cherry blossoms and wisteria flowers. In autumn, it is a famous destination for maple leaves viewing.

Must-do Things in Maizuru Park

1. Visit the Fukuoka Castle Ruins

The Fukuoka Castle was built by Kuroda Nagimasa, a prominent military commander in ancient Japan, from 1601 to 1607. Today, only some foundations, towers, and other structures remain, which are located in the southern side of Maizuru Park. Designated as a National Historic Site of Japan, Fukuoka Castle Ruins show the castle’s structure during the Edo period (1603-1868). The preserved Tenshudai, the base of Main Keep, situated at the highest point of the castle, serves as an observation deck, allowing visitors to enjoy a 360-degree view of Mazaru Park and Fukuoka City.

2. Appreciate Cherry Blossom in Spring

Maizuru Park is home to 1,200 cherry blossom trees that bloom from March to April. From late March to early April, a cherry blossom festival will be held to welcome more visitors, featuring various performances such as Kendo shows, samurai shows, and various snacks and souvenirs. During the festival, the park is illuminated at night, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms in the evening, and providing a unique visual experience.

Tips:

It is free to visit the park on usual days. But at night from late March to early April, it requires an entrance fee.
1. Admission Fee: JPY600 for each venue. As there are a total of 2 - 3 venues, you may purchase a pass for all venues to receive a discount.
2. Night Opening Time: 18:00-22:00; last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
